This recipe makes 6 pies, *disclaimer, you can add more or less depending on how many mouths you’d like to feed*

Ingredients:

For the pastry:

400g Self Raising flour (For those Gluten Free choose Gluten Free Self Raising Flour) some flour will be needed to sprinkle over the rolling pin.

5 tablespoons of cold water

3 tablespoons of butter

For the filling:

1 teaspoon of salt

1 pack of beef or turkey mince

1 teaspoon of black pepper

1 teaspoon/ a pinch of thyme

1 small red onion

Carrots

1 egg to glaze the pies

1 teaspoon of curry powder

1 maggi cube/ knorr cube

1 tablespoon of olive oil/any oil of your preference

3 potatoes

Optional Ingredients – scotch bonnet, ginger, paprika, pepper and spring onion

Vegan or Veggie? Take out the meat and use what you like!

Method

For the pastry: Mix together the flour and salt in a bowl cut the butter into chunks and add to the bowl or a food processor and mix together using your fingers so that it resembles a crumbly mixture then ad the water and mix.

Add a sprinkle of flour onto your hands and roll the dough into a ball. Place back into a bowl and cover with cling film until you are ready to make the pies.

Filling:

Chop the onion, carrot.

Peal and boil your potatoes. Once your potatoes are boiled leave to cool, chop the potatoes into small cubes.

Fry the onions, add the beef or turkey into the pan, add the seasoning add the knorr or maggi cube and cook until the meat is brown.

Add the potato, carrot and stir into the meat. Allow to cook for another 10-12 minutes.

Leave the meat to cool.

Pie Making

Preheat the oven to 200C

Dust flour onto a chopping board or your table top surface. Take out the dough and cut into several balls ready to roll out into pies.

Roll out each dough to a round shape and place the meaty mix into each one.

Once you have made all your pies place them onto a try, glaze with egg and bake for 20 minutes/until golden brown.

This served 4 people.

Ingredients:

Pinch of Mixed Herbs

Pinch of Rosemary,

Olive oil,

Pinch of Salt

Dash of Cayenne Pepper

Sprinkle of Black pepper

Grated Parmesan Cheese,

2 tablespoons White Wine Vinegar,

Potatoes, (As many as you want)

Butter

How to make Hasselback Potatoes:

Method:

First Part
  1. Wash and peel the  potatoes – try and keep them as round as possible and same size. If they are not, slice them into rounds. Wash again and place them onto a chopping board.
  2. Make thin slices into the potatoes taking care not to cut through the potatoes completely.
  3. Place the potatoes into a pot of cold water, with a pinch of salt and white wine vinegar.  Leave them soak in the water for an hour.
  4. Boil the potatoes for 12 minutes in the same water that they soaked in so that they start to soften but not too soft.
  5. Empty the pot of the water and place the potatoes into a baking tray, or roasting tray., make sure that each potato sits nicely on the tray and is not touching another.
Second Part:
  1. Preheat your oven to 200C
  2. Then, drizzle the potatoes with olive oil, sprinkle on your spices, mix, herbs, rosemary, cayenne pepper, butter.
  3. Toss the potatoes in the tray making sure each potato is covered in this mix and place the tray into the oven. cook for 15 minutes then turn the potatoes over and re drizzle the mix from the tray over the potatoes to recoat them in liquid for another 15 minutes.
  4. Leave the potatoes  to cook until they are soft inside, crispy golden looking on the outside. Disclaimer,  mine took 45 minutes until they were perfectly cooked.

Have a look at the potatoes, once you are happy, it’s time to serve. One thing I could not get over was how good the rosemary and potatoes smell! I was salivating whilst they were cooking.

How to serve:

If your potatoes look dry, drizzle another  teaspoon of olive oil over the potatoes and then sprinkle as much or as little Parmesan as you like.

This served 2 people.

Ingredients:

Schwartz Mixed Herbs,

Steak – I opted for 2 Rump steaks as it was what i could find during this uncertain time, but choose whatever is your preferred cut of steak,

1 bag of Flat Leaf Parsley,

Sweet Potatoes – I used 3 medium sized ones,

1 Lemon (zest and juice),

A pinch of Ground Black Pepper

A pinch of Table Salt,

1 Garlic Clove,

1 Small Scotch Bonnet/Red Chilli,

1/2  Red Pepper,

Olive oil – to drizzle onto the sweet potatoes and into the sauce,

2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar

Method:

Sweet Potatoes:

  1. Wash and slice/ chop  the sweet potatoes – I opted for them to be like fries but cut them into whatever shape you fancy. Place in a tray or plate to drizzle over two tablespoons of oil and toss the potatoes making sure each potato has some oil on.
  2. Heat the oven to 200C  and line a flat baking tray with baking  parchment.
  3. Place  the sweet potatoes onto the baking tray, making sure that the sweet potatoes are flat, not touching each other and sprinkle some Schwartz Mixed Herbs onto the sweet potatoes.
  4. Cook these until soft. I cooked mine for 20 minutes.

Steak (for medium rare steak)

  1. Heat a frying pan with oil.
  2.  Sprinkle the steak with salt and black pepper then place into the frying pan. Cook for 3 minutes (you can do this from anywhere between 3-6 minutes) on each side.
  3. Place the steaks on a chopping/resting board ready to serve.

Adjust the time cooking for the steaks depending on how you like them, if you like yours a little more well done leave for longer on each side (7-10 minutes) if you like yours rarer reduce the time from 3 minutes.

Chimichurri Sauce

  1. Wash and chop the Parsley.
  2. Zest the lemon
  3. Slice the lemon in half and juice.
  4. Chop the scotch bonnet (OR) red chilli, you can do both if you really like spice) and red pepper.
  5. Crush the garlic (OR smash and chop).
  6. Add the ingredients, and add a dash of Schwartz mixed herbs to a bowl, add the 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar, lemon juice and and oil and stir the mix.

Now to plate up.

Place your steak onto the plate and then plate up the sweet potatoes, garnish the Chimichurri onto the steak you can add as much or little as you like.

This dish is quick and simple, with the sweet potato fries it also adds the healthy element to the mix.

5. TwoRuba at the Hilton Tower Bridge

🍸🍹🥃💫Happy Friday! 💫⁣ 🍸 🍹 🥃 ⁣ On Monday Night I attempted 🤭 to make some cocktails at @tworuba in London Bridge, Cocktail Making Class.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ We had Liam from @beastiecocktails to teach us how to make two cocktails. 1. Mai Tai and 2. Rattlewick. ⁣ ⁣ For the Mai Tai we used @deadmansfingers (this is my new favourite) @cointreu, and the adding blue colours and then for the Rattlewick we used @aperolspritzuk, @chase_distillery Grapefruit Gin, lemon juice, grapefruit juice and sugar syrup. 5 PLACES IN LONDON, I ATE AT IN JANUARY 2020

 

January – That long, cold, dark month after the anticipation of Christmas. January is that month that seems to go on forever, it felt like payday was an eternity away. Even though it was the same day as every month in 2019.

Some people decided to go SOBER and complete DRY-JAN, although that has never been for me.   That would make January even longer.   There were lots of offers going on in January including a lovely free Nandos.

Here is a quick round up of 5 places I ate in Janaury 2020

 

  1. The Hoop and Grapes, which is a Nicholson Pub. It is located in Aldgate. This pub has lots of history, it survived The great fire of London back in 1666 because of its timber.

When I visited back in January it was close to “Burns Night”.

Therefore I was lucky to  try some heart and belly warming Scottish food, in anticipation for their Burns Night Menu.

Up first was the Haggis and Chicken and then the Veg Pot pie, washed down with Scottish Whisky.  For Dessert I had Cranachan – a Scottish dessert that consists of raspberries, cream, honey and oats.

Parlour Bar is part of Drake and Morgan and they had an offer for 2 meals and 2 drinks for £20. I did not actually take up this offer as my friend and I met up at 11 am.

4.  Big Easy   in Canary Wharf

Before food VS after eating 😂. 5.  Whittards of Chelsea

The weather was insane so I took shelter in Whittards for some White Hot Chocolate. Okay I know this is not necessarily food but it was delicious.  I first discovered White Hot Chocolates when I went to New York in Summer 2014.

Even if you do not like Hot Chocolate there is something here for you/ There are food options available including afternoon tea.

I am back

I am back.  After taking some time (which ended up being 2019) off from blogging.

Why? I found myself not living in the moment sometimes,  I also had a lot of changes in life including my job and new responsibilities.

So whilst it will take me some time to update this site.

If you do not follow me on Instagram, here are some of the things I did last year.

 

Last year I travelled a fair bit, this was amazing. Travelling  opened my eyes to many new cultures and places.  My favourite trip? Has to be Dubai!

🇦🇪#traveltuesday 🇦🇪 Earlier this month I travelled to Dubai. Dubai had been on my list for a while but this trip came sooner than anticipated as a bit last minute getaway. So Dubai is magical ✨ I found it to be one of those places you can’t manage to fit in everything you want to see and I definitely want to return. •✈️ 💻I’m adding a travel part onto my blog but for now here is the low down. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 • 1. I flew with @emirates from @londongatwick airport. I have to admit this was one of the best plane rides I’ve taken our flight was at 2am and landed in the morning in Dubai greeted with 39 degrees 🌞👩🏾‍🦱 I watched the film #widows and slept for most of the journey. 2. I stayed at @dukesthepalm in #palmjumeirah – everyone at this hotel was super friendly helpful and made this trip so amazing. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay I would recommend this hotel! 3. I was half board so ate mainly at the GBR restaurant in my hotel however other places I ate at were @thecheesecakefactoryme @shakeshack via @ubereats @dunkindonutsuae , @theburgerjoint , @wagamamauae 4. Postcards from Italy, I am now in Verona and this is my current view well the view from my iPhone 🤭.- •To get here I took a #trenitalia from Mestre to Venezia Santa Lucia and then another one to #Verona. The rest is still unwritten… * Happy New Year, may 2020 be THE best one yet for everyone 💥💖. ⁣ ⁣ Now we’re done with the holiday season, the realness of returning back to work tomorrow is starting to kick in, although I’m super excited to get back to work #nhslife . Events

 

I went to a lot of events last year which allowed me to meet some fantastic people including those in Food, Hospitality, Blogging and Photography.

 

Eating:

Last year I was able to eat a lot, but the biggest thing was being able to eat food at the temperature it should be.  Often when you are out in restaurants you can look around and find lots of people taking pictures using not only their phones but also cameras. As the saying goes “The Camera Eats first” but last year I really started to just eat, eat without taking 100+ pictures because honestly, cold food sucks!

Sometimes in situations literally all you can do is SMILE 📍 OWL, San Pedro de Alacantra, Marbella 🇪🇸 ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 📷 so I ordered the gluten free waffles and coconut water- This came with a spoon so when you finished you could eat the coconut and honestly I never realised just how soft the inside coconut is when they’re fresh! I love coconut water do you? ⁣ ⁣ 😊shout out to the waiter for taking these pictures and for the cute smile message on the coconut 🌴🥥 ⁣I needed that. ⁣happy Monday folks! Has anyone been to the 𝑭𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒊 𝑪𝒂𝒇𝒆⁣? ⁣ Things to do this half term and in London this week, this is definitely a must. ⁣ ⁣ This was a pop up for the summer which got extended because it was pretty popular and is here until November. So it’s half term this week and I’m hanging out with my mum. We headed to Harrods as i had seen this on IG a fair bit. ⁣ What did we order? ⁣ ⁣ 1. Meatballs⁣ 2. Chicken Milanese ⁣ 3. X2 got chocolates⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Taste – I was surprised by how good the food was! Things to do in London this Winter.

  1. Ice Skating

So I have to admit, I’m not great at this (I have witnesses) but it’s a must do at winter.

Places to skate include Canary Wharf Ice Rink, Somerset House, The Natural History Museum to name a few.

I went to Somerset House

Hot Chocolate! There are so many places for magnificent Hot Chocolates. Chin chin is great for that extravagant extraness of a hot chocolate. 

 

 

 

5 Street Food Restaurants to eat at for £10 or less

Sometimes you want to eat out but not spend lots of £££. Perhaps you want a quick bite to eat but not wait over 30 minutes for your food to be cooked/delivered.

There are so many places to try, so here is my current 5 street food places to eat for £10 or less in two London markets.

Old Spitafields Market

  1. Dumpling Shack

This has become my favourite place in  Old Spitafields Market. The Shenjinbao dumplings have a nice crispy bottom and soft top. I always go for the Pork and Leek pan friend soup dumplings. They’re little balls of joy, packed with flavour.  £10.90. During the working week the Dumpling Shack have a special lunch menu – Spicy Dan Dan Beef Noodles below, are noodles with a spicy sauce, smacked cucumbers and Sichuan beef. £8.90 

     

If you go for the Lunch Menu you can have the Dan Dan beef noodles with any two dumplings or smacked cucumbers which ranges from £13-£15.50.  There is also a vegan lunch meal deal for £9.00

2. Berber and Q

Great for Middle Eastern food -think flatbreads with lamb or shawarma. I opted for the Lamb Hummus Bowl £10.00 with pickles, hummus, tomatoes. 

 

Rating: 4/5

3. Yum Bun

Yum Bun for soft steamed buns. They’re reasonably priced at £4.00 each or 2 for £7.50. Pictured – Slow roasted pork belly with cucumber, spring onion and hoi sin sauce and the fried chicken with a secret special sauce, lettuce and chilli pickles. 

Rating: 4/5

Boxpark Wembley – Opened in December 2018

  1. Drums and Flats (Great Chicken Wings)

 

 

Having stalked this place  for a long time after being tagged in a picture on Instagram by a friend. Finally I visited them in Wembley. Pictured – Sticky BBQ wings. £7.00.

2. Ugly Dumpling

 

I have been wanting to visit Ugly Dumpling restaurant so it is great there is a pop up at box park in Wembley. 

Pictured – Prawn and Chive Dumplings £6.00 make sure you grab some  of the sauces to pack in more flavour.

A taste of Buenos Aires, Argentina in the middle of the enchanting St Katharine Docks

CAU is an Argentinian restaurant based on the mixed Buenos Aires cuisine which has influences of Italy, Spain and Argentina.

 

First Impressions

The interior design of CAU is vibrant, with quirky floating clouds lights, slick white chairs with contrasting black tables,  grass walls and ceilings which remind you of being outside, beautiful blue sky wall paper across the restaurant.

What about the Staff?

Every staff member in CAU SKD is friendly, helpful and attentive from the CAU Girls and Boys to the Chefs.

 

What did EatingwithPrecious order?

Starters:

  1. TACOS

Chipotle chicken with guacamole and pickled jalapeño cucumber salsa wrapped in a blue corn tortilla.

  1. SHRIMP CHICHARRON

Lightly fried shrimp severed with ají amarillo sauce, red jalapeño, spring onion and coriander cress.

 

Mains:

  1. COAL GRILLED SPATCHCOCK CHICKEN (WHOLE)

Maple-glazed with pico de gallo salsa. Served with a choice of chips. In this picture, sweet potoato fries.

  1. CHARCOAL ROASTED PORK BELLY

Covered in BBQ sauce before being roasted. Served coleslaw and sweet potato fries.

Dessert:

  1. DULCE VOLCANO

The Buenos Aires classic, served with an amaretto cream.

  1. CHURROS

Doughnuts but in Argentinian style. Served with dulce de leche.

The Verdict:

The food in CAU is served beautifully. Each dish was tasty and full of flavour. Although all the food was enjoyed, the winning dishes of the day was “Shrimp Chicharron” and “Spatchcock Chicken”. The Shrimps were ever so lightly battered they were not covered in flour which allowed for the full taste of juicy prawns. The aji Amarillo (Peppers) sauce gave great a kick to the prawns. So this dish is great if you like spice!

 

Although I could not finish my main dish, of course it was taken home to be devoured again later:

 

 

Would EatingwithPrecious return?

Absolutely, depending on the day you visit CAU there are different offers. Bottomless Brunch on a Saturday starting at £12.50 at or Sunday Roast for just £15 per person. CAU is a must visit in London to sample some Argentinian cuisine especially if you can’t fly to Buenos Aires anytime soon.

Why visit the SKD location:

Firstly, if you haven’t visited SKD you’re missing out. Who does not like to eat food with a view? It offers slick marina views and lots of cool boats in the middle of London.

It is not a far walk from Fenchurch Street Station or Tower Hill station and it is pretty much across from the Tower of London.

El Makami – Italian Tapas Restaurant Tenerife

Eating with Precious eats outside LONDON!

In January 2018 Eating with Precious made it’s first journey outside the UK for 2018 and took on Tenerife for some winter sunshine.

Although, the hotel I stayed at  Iberostar   in Costa Adeje was all inclusive, I felt the need to venture out of the dining room to a local restaurant.  Whilst searching, my new found Italian holiday friends suggested El Makami.

El Makami  is located on Playa de Fanabe beach aka the beach front. It’s an Tapas Restaurant and Bar with a twist ALL TAPAS ARE ITALIAN!


 Playa de Fanabe beach is also perfect to watch the sunset/ get in for a swim/catch that Vitamin D and then head to a restaurant for dinner or a bar for a few drinks!   I took this photo whilst sat on a sun lounger one evening after visiting El Gran Sol

El Makami has a range of tapas (Pescado -Fish/Pescatarian ,  Vegetales -Veggie, Carne -Meat) and also offers various tapas of the day.

The waitress at El Makami was friendly and speaks both Italian and English (Great if you want to practice your Italian).  The restaurant is quaint and clean.

What was ordered?

  • Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce, Rocket Salad Pesto and Salted Ricotta,
  • Tuna Tartare with Raspberry Vinaigrette, Cucumber and Basil,
  • Trilogy of Beef Burger
  • Fried Calamari
  • Italian Tuna Thai (Tuna Steak, Mozzarella, Bread and Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce)
  • Trilogy of Vegetables –  Carrot Slush, Millefogile of Sweet Peppers and Courgette filled with Mojito (Cheese,Lime and Mint)

 

The Tuna Tartare was incredible! The saltiness of the tuna mixed with the tart, sharp, sweet raspberry. 

 

 

 

 

The Tuna stacks were not overly spicy rather a hint of sweet spice so do not panic if you do not like spice.  El Makami is onto a great combination with Mozzarella and Sweet Chilli.

 

 

The courgette was filled with cheese! I could not wait to let it ooze out.

 

The middle dish – sweet peppers had a crunchy outer texture.

 

Fresh Calamari!

The Gnocchi was another winner.

As Tapas is meant for sharing I’d recommend around 5/6 dishes to share between (maybe a bit more if you’re feeling slightly hangry!)

Thoughts? 

  • Price – The tapas range between 5-8 Euros each which is reasonable.
  • Location – Although it was tricky to find initially if you come from the street level instead of the beach. However El Makami is right on the beachfront which makes it perfect for Summer time.
  • Best Dish – The Tuna Tartare and Trio of Vegetarian Dishes.

 

If you are ever visiting Tenerife (Costa Adeje or Playa de Fanabe) make sure you give El Makami a try and quote EatingwithPrecious!
